Garcia offers an animal-centric alphabet guide in this picture book.
Like many traditional children's alphabet primers, this book takes each of the 26 letters one at a time and assigns them to a related animal and situation. But the author isn't satisfied with a single usage for each letter—instead, his sentences are jam-packed with alliteration, which make for some incredibly silly circumstances that young children may find amusing ("Sienna the Spider surfs with silly sharks in sombreros" describes the letter S). Each page also features extra elements in the background that begin with the featured letter, encouraging readers to find as many relevant objects as they can. There is no particular throughline from letter to letter and thus no overarching narrative; this debut picture book might instead lend itself best to being read selectively, rather than as a whole, especially for the youngest readers. Garcia sets himself apart by tackling the usually difficult letters with grace, introducing urchins for U, quokkas for Q, and xenops for X. Shch's digital illustrations, as bright and playful as the text, tell their own self-contained stories on each page—for example, Ava the Alligator isn't only avoiding aliens, as the text states; a closer look reveals that an axolotl is threatening her as well.
A fun, mildly innovative addition to a familiar learning model.

Readers' Favorite - 5 Star Review
Alphakazoo by Edgar Garcia and Darya Shch is an amazing children's picture book. The animals come to life wonderfully, teaching kids new words and introducing the very best forms of alliteration. From Ava the alligator trying to stay away from angry aliens and Freddy the fox watching a fight between fairies to Olive the owl and the outrageous ogre, and Ziggy the zebra in the zany zombie zoo, this is an A to Z of everyone's favorite animals, and every page is packed with fun and color.
Alphakazoo by Edgar Garcia and Darya Shch is one of the best picture books I have ever had the pleasure to read. Every page is packed with colorful illustrations, and the alliteration makes each mini-story a lesson in itself. This is a great way for kids to learn their letters and learn new words as they go, and each letter of the alphabet is perfectly represented by a well-known animal. If that isn't enough, readers are encouraged to search the illustrations to find everything mentioned in the tongue-twister, helping kids hone their observational and memory skills, too. The author and illustrator have done an amazing job with each Alphabet story, making kids want to read on and see what's next. This is the perfect book to encourage children to use their imaginations, and it should be a mandatory part of every library, school, and home in the world. A highly enjoyable book, very educational, and a whole lot of fun and entertainment, too.
